OUR MISSION
The League of Indian Nations is a non-profit organization that represents all Nations of North America. We strive to bring understanding and equality; to unite all Nations and to overcome all obstacles through information and education.
WHAT WE DO
OUR COMMUNITY
Our rights are already entrenched and provided for in the traditions, cultures and history of our people, including the documents and laws of Canada and the United States.
What is the League of Indian Nations?
Registration by the League is not a membership in an organization. Your card does not create any new rights or grant status as an “Indian” in terms of the Indian Act. As a person of aboriginal descent, you already have aboriginal rights beyond those outlined in the Indian Act.
It is all our responsibility to act out of that knowledge, inspire each other’s spiritual strength, and to unite in the struggle towards a greater future for our generations. We urge you to strengthen your involvement in whatever band, nation or organization in which you express your Indian or aboriginal affiliations… The League will assist you.
Our self-government has never been compromised. Since 1991 with the discussion on the Canadian Constitution and Indian unity, we have re-established the League as a resource and voice for our people. In registering with the League, you are a direct part in our nation’s struggles.
Among your benefits are:
1. A permanent card which ID’s you as a North American Indian. Across North America, we find League cards over 50 years old…the League is a living tradition.
2. Your ID will be registered in our national center computer database, and, eventually entered onto an international membership database with other native nations and world governments. Your children may receive an Aboriginal Birth Certificate and registration also.
3. You have a formal statement of your Aboriginal (and Treaty) Rights, respected and enforced by governments.
4. Your registration supports:
-
Legal research and actions to support OUR rights
-
Production of materials on Indian issues
-
Community based economic development
-
Local and Treaty support councils
-
Spiritual and technical support to all Indian programs and organizations
We welcome you to the League and enlist your support.
In Indian Unity.
